The water is out until Wednesday, and that single fact decides the first two days of a week that ends in Halloween. Start there.

The coastal flood warning runs to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, with breaking waves of 8 to 10 feet. The high rip current risk goes through late Tuesday night. The weather service says inexperienced swimmers should stay out.

So no beach Monday. No beach Tuesday. Not a judgment call this week.

Monday itself is thin. Here is all of it.

Tonight

Micah Gilliam at Prohibition Kitchen, 119 St George St, 6 to 9. That is the whole of tonight’s live music in the sweep. No cover printed. Ask at the door.

Free and earlier: an author talk at the Waterworks, 184 San Marco Avenue, 5:30. The Historical Society’s speaker series is at 6:30, on Zoom, which nobody has to drive anywhere in a 24 mph northeast wind to attend.

Three exhibits are free and open in the daytime. Rebel Waters at the Crisp-Ellert museum at Flagler, 48 Sevilla Street, from 10. The veterans exhibit at eFRAME, 200 San Sebastian View. Art in Public Spaces at the county administration building, 500 San Sebastian View.

All three run Monday to Friday. None of them Saturday.

Tuesday, go to the fort

The Castillo de San Marcos is free on Tuesday, from 9. Admission only. Parking downtown is not free and never has been.

It is the best free thing in the week, and it lands on the one day the beach is still shut. Good timing, for once.

The Rotations at Prohibition Kitchen at 6. Same room as Monday. No cover on that one either.

Wednesday, the warning ends at five in the morning

The Pier Farmers Market at St. Augustine Beach Pier Park, 350 A1A Beach Blvd, from 8 a.m., free to attend.

The warning expires three hours before it opens.

Read that as the market being clear of the warning rather than as the ocean being friendly, because the surf advisory runs to 2 a.m. that same morning, which is two and not eight.

Thursday is when Halloween week actually starts

Everything with a costume on it is Thursday or later.

EstuScary at the GTM reserve, South Beach Access lot, 2200 S Ponte Vedra Blvd. Thursday and Friday at 7, listed at $20 to $30.

It is not on Halloween.

That is the single most useful sentence here, and the link in the sidebar has how the venue’s own page manages to suggest otherwise. Turn up Saturday night and you turn up to an empty car park.

To Kill a Mockingbird at the Limelight, 11 Old Mission Avenue, Thursday and Friday at 7:30. No figure on the listing. Check before you go.

Free on Thursday: the Plein Air Nocturne downtown from 5. The listing gives no street address, which for an outdoor thing downtown is the usual. Country night at Colonial Oak, Thursday at 7. No venue and no price in the feed.

Thursday is 40 percent rain and Friday is 44, and both of those have an indoor version. The maze does not.

Friday, three prices and a field

Trunk or Treat at Shores United Methodist, 724 Shores Boulevard, 6 p.m., free. That is Friday’s free one. Send a younger sibling to it.

The Mortality and Mourning candlelight tour at the Ximenez-Fatio House, 20 Aviles Street, 6:30, $25. A candlelight tour of a house museum about death, the night before Halloween, is the correct use of this town.

Crop Maze at Sykes Family Farms, 5995 Brough Rd, from 6. Prices vary, which is the listing saying go and find out. It is a field. The 44 percent matters.

Halloween

Saturday is a high near 77, mostly sunny, 30 percent chance of showers after 8 in the morning and the same again at night. For the 31st of October on this coast, with a northeast wind that has been blowing all week and a flood warning that only came off on Wednesday morning, that is as good as it gives.

Tangled Orchid at Colonial Oak Music Park, 21 St George Street, 7 p.m. The feed carries no price.

Dr. Sick and the Etcetera at Prohibition Kitchen at 8, billed with members of the Squirrel Nut Zippers band. Strangest booking of the week.

Take the chance.

Up early instead: the Hope for Haiti 5K at Anastasia Baptist at 8, and the Amphitheatre farmers market at 8:30, free to attend.

The one everybody ends up at anyway is St. George Street after dark on the 31st. In costume, for nothing. Same plan as every year, and the only one that needs no ticket.
