Start with the one that has a ticket on it.

CAKE plays the Amphitheatre tonight at eight. The venue bills it as An Evening with CAKE. No opener is named on the page, and that matters on a weeknight. Compare Saturday, where the Amp lists Turnpike Troubadours at 6:30 with two special guests under the headline. Tonight, eight means eight.

The forecast is on your side. Mostly clear, low around 64, no rain in it at all. The wind is the catch. North at 10 to 16, gusting to 21. At an outdoor amphitheatre after dark that is a layer you will want and will not have.

Ten more rooms, no ticket page

Eleven acts are on the county calendar tonight. CAKE is one of them. The other ten are in bars, restaurants and a wine shop. The calendar gives a time and a room for every one of them, and a price for none. So go knowing the time. Ask at the door about the rest.

Act Room Set
Jim Lamb Mill Top Tavern 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Smokin’ Joe Schauer Tradewinds Lounge 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Jonathan Lee Dotson Casa de Vino 57 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Shayla Nelson Graet Goods 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Carpetbaggers Hurricane Grill and Wings, Anastasia 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Mark Hart Tradewinds Lounge 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
ZaZa Flamenca A1A Asian Kitchen 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Al Canali Harry’s Seafood Bar and Grille 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Colin Kosco Salt Life Food Shack 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Gary Douglas Campbell O.C. White’s Restaurant 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
CAKE St. Augustine Amphitheatre 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Two of those ten are the same room twice. Tradewinds runs an afternoon set and an evening one, and its own residency page lists a third Wednesday slot at nine that the county calendar does not carry. The county calendar does not have him.

The cheap part, with the prices published

Eighteen county restaurants publish a happy hour window that runs on a Wednesday. These are the ones that also publish what it costs.

Where Window What it costs
Taco Libre #2, 1001 A1A Beach Blvd. 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. $4.99 wine and High Noon cans, Wednesday only
Taco Libre #3, 2600 N. Ponce De Leon Blvd. 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. $4.99 High Noon, two-for-one house wines, Wednesday only
Back 40 Urban Fresh, 450 S.R. 13 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. tacos from $3, $5 house margaritas, $5 well spirits
Pizzalley’s Chianti Room, 60 Charlotte St. 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. half off draft, house wine and well liquor, live music, free slice
Barley Republic, 48 Spanish Street 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. $5 smash burgers, $5 bone-in wings, $5 drafts and well cocktails

The free thing tonight is the slice at Pizzalley’s, and the catch is the clock. It comes with the happy hour, which ends at six, and both Taco Libre windows end at six as well, which is a full hour before most of the music starts. That is the Wednesday trick.

The odd one

Latin night at the winery. Amaranto plays The Cellar Upstairs at La Cocina, 157 King Street, third floor, eight to ten. The venue’s own schedule has it. The county calendar does not carry it. That makes twelve acts tonight rather than eleven, if you count the way the rooms do.

Same band ran this slot two Wednesdays ago and is on it again next week, so it is a residency and not a one-off.

And the one everybody ends up at anyway

Tradewinds, 124 Charlotte Street. Its own schedule runs three Wednesday slots with a time against each: the early show at one, the happy hour set at five, and the week night band at nine. Jack Hammer has the nine. That is the only start on this page that lands after every happy hour window on it has shut.
