Happy hour, by the night

20 places in St. Johns County publish a happy hour window, almost all of them on their own site rather than in any directory. Another 29 are listed as having one and will not say when; they are named at the foot of this page with their phone numbers, because a number is more use than a guessed hour. Rooms change their minds without telling anybody, so ring ahead before you drive.

A window, but no days published

These print an hour and not the days it runs. They are not in the lists above because this paper will not put a venue on a night it never claimed.

Listed for happy hour, publishing no time

The county's visitor bureau tags 49 venues as having a happy hour. 20 of them publish the window. The rest are below, with the phone number where there is one, because a name and a number is more use than an invented hour.

Where this comes from, and what is missing

The county’s visitor bureau tags 49 venues as having a happy hour, which is how this paper knew which rooms to ask about. It publishes the actual hour for two of them. So every window above was read off the venue’s own page instead, one room at a time, and each is re-checked against that page when this list is rebuilt. If the wording moves, the time comes off this page rather than going stale on it.

No time here was taken from a directory, and that is deliberate. Directory copy is undated and nobody re-reads it. One listing gives a restaurant a happy hour that appears nowhere on that restaurant’s own site, at an hour suspiciously close to its opening time, and another still carries a golf course restaurant that its own operator writes about in the past tense.

This is a floor and not a census. The bureau lists 460 restaurants in this county and tags 49 for happy hour, so a room it does not tag is missing from this page even if it pours a cheap beer at five. Of the ones that were asked, seven have no website anybody could find, two publish only to Facebook, and seven more render nothing a machine can read. Several of the windows above were buried in a menu PDF, and one of those was a photograph of a menu with no text in it at all. If you run a room, or you drink in one, send us the hours and the nights it runs.
