Three National Weather Service advisories are in force on this coast today, and the one that decides your Sunday is the surf. The High Surf Advisory names Northeast Coastal and Southeast Coastal St. Johns and gives “large breaking waves of up to 7 to 11 feet,” and it runs until 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

The high rip current risk inside that same product runs through late Monday night. The impacts line reads “Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion.” The instruction is that inexperienced swimmers should stay out of the water.

So the beach day costs nothing and is not available.

The Wind Advisory is the second one. It gives northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 to 45 mph, and it holds until 2 a.m. on Monday. The service says gusts that strong make driving difficult for high profile vehicles and can bring tree limbs down.

That is the whole free-outdoors column, crossed out in one morning.

The festival is the answer, and it closes three hours earlier than yesterday

The St. Augustine Greek Festival’s last day is today at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 2940 County Road 214. It runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday ran until eight in the evening and today does not. Five o’clock is the number to plan around, because turning up at half past four means queueing against everybody who read the Saturday hours.

The festival’s own page prints no gate charge. Parking is where the condition hides, and the page offers two versions of it one paragraph apart. Premium parking at the church is $20. Free parking is at R J Murray Middle School, 150 N Holmes Blvd, with a shuttle run by STA Transportation to the church and back.

The free one requires the shuttle, and the shuttle stops when the festival does. Dogs are not allowed on the site. Service animals are allowed with their person.

Getting there without keys

The Sunshine Bus does not run on a Sunday. Its published schedules are Monday through Saturday, and its own data file carries one service record with Sunday set to zero. So there is no county bus today to the church, to the beach, or to anywhere else in this county.

The city’s STAR Circulator is free and it does run today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., paid for by a state road grant and operated by Old Town Trolley. The city’s own page for it still publishes no list of stops, a month after the route changed. So it is a free ride downtown, and the page will not tell you where it picks you up. The shuttle tracker link is the only route information on it.

County Road 214 is not downtown. Getting to the festival means a car or somebody else’s car.

What else costs nothing today

The St. Augustine Farmers Market runs every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Classic Car Museum on US 1 South, and the museum lists it for today by name. It is free to walk into. It sits at a site with a building on it, which is worth something in a 45 mph gust, and it is over at one.

This is not the Amphitheatre market, which runs on Saturday mornings at a different address. The Amphitheatre itself has nothing on its calendar tonight. Its next listing is CAKE on Wednesday with the start time given as 8 p.m., then Turnpike Troubadours next Saturday at 6:30, and both of those are start times rather than door times.

What to do with the week

Cars and Coffee at the car museum is Saturday, Oct. 24, from 8 to 10 a.m., free outside and half price into the museum. The Limelight’s backstage tour is Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m., and it is the only listing on that theatre’s page marked free. It takes no card and no exact change.

The rip current risk ends late Monday night and the surf advisory ends at 2 a.m. on Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon is the first stretch this week when the water is not under a published warning.
