Two of tonight’s seven county games are already over on one scoreboard and unplayed on two others.
Here is the one that will be everywhere by morning. FloridaHSFootball’s week 8 page has Creekside 46, Atlantic Coast 0. Dated Thursday, marked Final, at Creekside High School Stadium. It moved the records too. Creekside to 5-2, Atlantic Coast to 0-7.
Creekside’s own calendar says the varsity game is tonight at seven.
So does MaxPreps, to the minute.
Creekside’s Thursday football is junior varsity, twice, against Clay and against Atlantic Coast, both of those at six.
Which means somebody is wrong
Two of the three documents say Friday. The third says Thursday and gives a score.
That is what the scoreboard carries and it is not a result. The two documents closest to the game, which are the school’s own calendar and the MaxPreps page that says 7 p.m. Eastern in three places, both have it kicking off tonight, and a final score on a date neither of them shares is a page out of step with the game rather than the game.
If it moved, the schools did not move it. MaxPreps stamps Beachside’s page updated yesterday afternoon. Nothing moved there either.
Bartram Trail at Beachside, and a word that keeps coming up
The other county-against-county game is on the same page, also dated Thursday, also at 6:30.
It reads STATUS UNKNOWN.
The card shows 19 Beachside, 0 Bartram Trail. It is stopped in the third quarter, flagged stale, with no result applied to either record. Bartram Trail is still 5-1 there and Beachside is still 3-2, which are the records both carried before Thursday, and that is the tell.
An unfinished card is not a score.
It is a page that stopped updating.
The Legacy game, settled at last
Beachside went to Legacy on Oct. 1 and no outlet posted a result. This paper said it would report one when somebody did.
Nobody did. Now there is a reason.
FloridaHSFootball’s week 7 card reads Postponed. It carries 0 and 0, both records unchanged, and no venue change. On the Oct. 2 and Oct. 3 pulls the same card read Status Unknown with no points. Postponed is a different word. It is an answer.
A card that read Status Unknown for eight days and then read Postponed is not new information arriving, it is a page catching up with something that was already true on Oct. 1, and the difference matters to anybody who spent the week looking for a score that was never going to exist.
The game was not played. That closes it.
The five that are definitely tonight
No county school has a bye this week, all eight of them play a district game, and the whole county landing on one night happens exactly once on the fall card.
Nease (3-3) at Fletcher (4-2), 6:30 p.m., Jack Taylor Stadium.
Tocoi Creek (1-5) at First Coast (1-5), 6:30 p.m., Buccaneer Field.
Mandarin (5-1) at Ponte Vedra (2-4), 7 p.m., the Shark Tank.
Palatka (2-4) at Menendez (3-3), 7 p.m., Veterans Stadium.
St. Augustine (6-0) at Ridgeview (1-5), 7 p.m., Panther Stadium.
Those five cards read Scheduled and all five read Oct. 9. The records are the week 8 page’s.
St. Augustine is the county’s only unbeaten. It travels to the worst record on the board. Ridgeview is 1-5.
The two games nobody can date are the two with county teams on both sides or a county field underneath. Call the school.
