The haunted trail costs $20 if you book online and $30 if you pay standing in line, and after 9:30 tonight it is gone. EstuSCARY does not run on Halloween night, whatever its web address implies. Friday is the second of its two nights, 7 to 9:30, recommended for ages 10 and up.

It is also not where it was. The reserve’s page now carries a block headed LOCATION UPDATE: Guana River Dam, 505 Guana River Road, in Ponte Vedra Beach, with parking at the dam and at the GTM Visitor Center. Last week the same page said the South Beach Access lot, and at least one local event calendar still lists the old spot tonight. Go by the reserve’s own page, and wear closed-toe shoes. This one needs a car.

The free hour, and the free field

The genuinely free thing tonight runs for exactly one hour. Shores United Methodist Church has a trunk-or-treat from 6 to 7 p.m., free, per the event calendar. Arriving at 6 rather than 6:40 is most of the plan.

Football is the other big gathering, and every county school plays tonight. Four of the six games are home games. Land O Lakes is at Bartram Trail at Bear Stadium, and Westside is at Beachside at Barracuda Stadium. Creekside is at Ponte Vedra at the Shark Tank at 460 Davis Park Rd., and Tocoi Creek is at Menendez at Veterans Stadium at 600 State Road 206 W. All four kick off at 7. Neither the schools’ calendars nor the state scoreboard prints a ticket price, so bring more than you think the gate costs.

Music without a cover charge printed anywhere

The visitor bureau’s calendar lists 37 rooms with live music on Friday, counted off its own page, and prints a cover for none of them.

The late block is downtown and inside a walk of itself. Chuck & Eliot are at Mill Top Tavern from 9 to midnight. ZaZa Flamenca is at 17 King over the same hours. Sarbez has Reagan Bush at 7 and Sage Trunnell at 8.

The latest start on the page is Trae Pierce and the T-Stones at Prohibition Kitchen at 10 p.m. The venue’s own feed ends that set at midnight, where the bureau’s page says 1 a.m., so the safe plan is to be there for the front of it, not the end. Bottom Feeders play the same room from 6 to 9 first.

The water is out, and the free ride runs late

The rip current risk is high through Sunday evening, in the weather service’s own words, with Friday surf at 4 to 6 feet and a coastal flood advisory on both county beach zones until 3 p.m. The beach works as a place to stand tonight. It does not work as a place to swim. That holds all weekend.

The STAR Circulator is the free ride, funded by a state grant, and on Fridays it runs 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. between downtown, Anastasia Boulevard and A1A Beach Boulevard. The catch is the same one as always: the city publishes no departure times and no frequency, so it works as a bonus and not as a schedule. If the ride home has to happen at a specific minute, that minute needs a car.

Tomorrow is the actual holiday, and the one already marked free in a venue’s own words is Tangled Orchid at Colonial Oak, 7 to 10 Saturday night. The trail gets no tomorrow. The $20 version exists until you get in the car. After that it is the $30 one.
