Friday night, ranked.
1. First Friday Art Walk, 5 to 9, free. The galleries open their doors, pour something, and let you wander. Tours start at 22 Marine Street and the maps are free at any participating gallery. Go early if you want room to actually see the walls. The Cathedral Basilica carries an Art Walk concert from 6 to 7, which is a lot of ceiling for free.
2. Bruce Cockburn at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. Doors 6:30, show at 8, Livingston Taylor opening, and the room is seated. Tickets run $55.06 to $108.35 on the venue’s page, still on sale. That is real money. It is also the only show on tonight’s list with a printed price.
3. The free-music circuit, if the Art Walk is not your speed. Tangled Orchid at Colonial Oak Music Park, 7 to 10. Griffin House at Cafe Eleven at 8; the calendar prints no price for it, so check before you drive to the beach. None of the bar rooms on tonight’s calendar prints a cover.
4. The late shift. Chillula at Prohibition Kitchen, 10 to 1. Blistur at Tradewinds from 8:30 to 1:30 in the morning, which is the last music standing in the county tonight. The Mill Top runs Jon Q from 4:30 to 8:30, then Alan Dalton and Terry Campbell from 9 to midnight. Three rooms, zero printed covers. All a ten-minute walk apart.
5. Hastings, today and tomorrow. The Fall Harvest Festival runs at 408 Main Street, 9 to 3 today and 9 to 4 Saturday. Jacksonville Today reports admission is free: growers selling direct, food vendors, live entertainment, old tractors. The $100 farm tour and the $125 farm-to-table dinner are the ticketed extras, and the outlet reports the tour covers four working farms with lunch in it. The free part is the point. Skip the tour unless somebody else is paying.
Tomorrow, so you can plan: the St. ARTistine Art and Food Festival takes Francis Field from 10 to 5, the Botanical Garden throws itself a third-birthday party from 10 to 5 with a band in the afternoon, the Harvest Festival runs its second day, and A Flock of Seagulls plays the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, same room as tonight.
One warning, same as every week. No printed cover is not a promise of no cover. Bring a little cash and nobody can strand you.
