Bartram Trail is 3-0 and plays at Fletcher tonight at 6:30, and you cannot find that game on Bartram Trail’s own athletic calendar.
It is not there. The school’s FHSAA calendar runs its varsity season from Bishop Kenny on Sept. 4 straight to Creekside on Sept. 18. Two weeks, one hole, and the hole has a game in it.
FloridaHSFootball.com has it: Bartram Trail at Fletcher, Jack Taylor Stadium, 6:30 p.m., Bears 3-0, Senators 2-1. MaxPreps has it, same date, same kickoff, same host. Neither school posted it.
Tonight, all five
6:30 p.m. Bartram Trail (3-0) at Fletcher (2-1). Jack Taylor Stadium. Not on either school’s calendar. Call the athletic office before you drive.
7 p.m. Ponte Vedra (0-3) at Beachside (2-0). District. Barracuda Stadium. The Sharks have lost three games by a combined 17 points, one of them in overtime. Beachside has not lost, and is No. 18 in Class 5A on FloridaHSFootball’s rankings.
7 p.m. Tocoi Creek (0-3) at Creekside (2-1). District. Creekside High School Stadium.
7 p.m. Mandarin (2-0) at Nease (1-2). District. Panther Stadium.
7 p.m. St. Augustine (3-0) at Middleburg (2-1). District. Alan Powers Field at Garber Automall Stadium. The Yellow Jackets are the highest-ranked county team anywhere on FloridaHSFootball’s board: No. 9 in the state, No. 1 in Class 4A, No. 2 in Northeast Florida. They have not allowed more than 22 points in a game.
Menendez is idle. FloridaHSFootball’s week four bye list has the Falcons on it, and their varsity calendar has nothing between Sept. 4 and Sept. 18. The JV plays Matanzas at home Thursday at 6.
Records and rankings above are FloridaHSFootball.com’s.
Last week, as reported elsewhere
What follows is what FloridaHSFootball.com published.
Sept. 4:
- St. Augustine 34, Menendez 8, at Veterans Stadium.
- Nease 35, Mainland 33, at Panther Stadium.
- Bartram Trail 27, Bishop Kenny 24, at Bear Stadium. Bartram Trail’s own athletic office entered this one too, which makes it the rare county game with a school-reported final.
- Merritt Island 45, Ponte Vedra 37, at the Shark Tank.
- Fletcher 27, Creekside 21, at Jack Taylor Stadium.
And one that did not happen on Sept. 4 at all:
- Beachside 28, Tocoi Creek 24, played Monday, Sept. 7, at the Bullpen, under the name the Surf N’ Turf Bowl.
That last line is the second calendar problem of the week. Both schools still show that game on Friday, Sept. 4. FloridaHSFootball dates it Monday, Sept. 7 and reports it final. The schools never moved the row.
Where the calendars disagree
Six fall varsity games are on an outside source and on nobody’s school calendar. Two are dated differently by the schools than by FloridaHSFootball. One, Creekside at Nease on Aug. 21, is a disagreement about who hosted: both outside sources put it at Creekside and both schools’ calendars put it at Nease.
And one is a calendar arguing with itself. Nease’s own calendar has its October trip to Fletcher on both the 8th and the 9th, twice, as a district varsity game at 6:30 both times. One of those is wrong and nothing on the page says which.
Ten problems in one season across eight schools is not a scandal. It is what a hand-maintained calendar looks like in September. But if you are driving across the county line to a 6:30 kickoff on the strength of a school website, it is the difference between the first quarter and an empty parking lot.
Two more county teams played this week
St. Joseph Academy, 1-2, plays at Old Plank Christian tonight at 7. The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind lost 42-16 at City of Life Christian on Thursday. Both results and both schedules are FloridaHSFootball’s; neither school is a public high.
Next Friday: Bartram Trail at Creekside, Evans at St. Augustine, Bradford at Tocoi Creek, Menendez at Matanzas, Ponte Vedra at Fleming Island, and Beachside at Englewood, which FloridaHSFootball dates Thursday, Sept. 17 and Beachside’s calendar dates Friday, Sept. 18.
