The School Board met Tuesday morning at 40 Orange Street and spent part of it on how classrooms in Nocatee get paid for. That is the whole of what the public record says, and this is the third day of it being the whole.
The agenda for the Oct. 27 workshop runs one page. It carries three workshop topics. The third one reads “Nocatee DRI School Mitigation Update.” Under it, where a staff report or a table of figures would sit, there is a single line that reads “Strategic Plan: Mission Statement.” The other two topics, Legislative Platform and Legal Services, carry that same line and nothing else.
The district publishes an agenda packet as a separate document. On this meeting the packet is also one page, and it prints the agenda again and then it stops. This paper downloaded both files on Oct. 25 and downloaded them again early Thursday, converted both sets to text, and compared them line by line. Nothing was added behind any of the three topics in those four days.
Here is what that means if you have a child in a Nocatee-area school. School mitigation is the money a large development puts toward the cost of classroom capacity, and a development of regional impact is the largest kind the state recognizes. Whatever figures the board was given on Tuesday, you cannot read them, because the district did not publish them, and neither can this paper.
The three places a workshop would normally turn up
The first is the packet. The packet is one page. The second is the minutes, and the district’s minutes index still ends at the Sept. 22 workshop, exactly as it did four days ago. There are no minutes posted for the Oct. 6 workshop, for the Oct. 13 regular meeting, or for Tuesday. Minutes go to the board for approval at a later meeting, so the lag there is built in rather than unusual, and the board’s next regular meeting is Nov. 10.
The third is the video, and this is the part worth knowing. The district keeps a School Board Meetings page with 22 videos on it. None of them is a workshop. Every one of the 22 falls on a date the district’s own notices give as a School Board Meeting or a Special School Board Meeting, and the newest is the Oct. 13 regular meeting, posted the following day. The word “Workshop” does not appear on that page once.
So a workshop is not a meeting the district films. On this record it is the one kind of meeting it does not.
What is on the agenda three days from now
The portal has added one meeting since Oct. 25. It is a workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 9 a.m., and its agenda carries six topics: Student Progression Plan Updates, High School Connect, Professional Leadership Days: Fall 2026, a CHARACTER COUNTS! update, a Health Services Plan and a Dental MOU.
Nocatee is not on it.
The agenda for Tuesday’s workshop carried no action item, no motion and no voting block of any kind, so nothing was decided that a reader is owed a tally for. What was briefed was briefed, and the only record of it that will ever exist is the minutes, whenever the board approves them. The School Board meets next on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 4:30 p.m., in the auditorium of the administrative building at 40 Orange Street.
