High tide downtown is 8:58 Saturday morning. It is 9:40 Sunday.
Plan around the water, not the rain.
The predicted height at the city dock is 5.605 feet Saturday and 5.603 Sunday, and the king tides hold through Tuesday. The weather service has a rip current statement up for the St. Johns coast through late Saturday night, and the words it uses are dangerous rip currents and rough surf. There is a coastal flood advisory for the western half of the county until 4 p.m. Sunday.
So go to the water in the afternoon, not first thing.
Start here
The Avett Brothers are at the Amp on Sunday at 6:30, with The Secret Sisters. That is the one.
Tedeschi Trucks Band has the Amp too, and the venue’s own list says Oct. 10 to 12 and prints no start time in the list view, so check your ticket rather than this paragraph.
Ponte Vedra Concert Hall has four nights in a row. Eddie 9V Saturday at 8 with Katie Skene. All Them Witches Sunday at 7:30 with Emma Ruth Rundle. Edwin McCain Monday at 7:30. Indigo Girls Tuesday at 7, with Linda Perry.
The free one
Dewy Via at Colonial Oak, Saturday, 7 to 10. Free show, all ages, dogs welcome, and all four of those come off the venue’s own calendar rather than off anybody’s enthusiasm.
The catch downtown is the same catch it has always been, and it is not the ticket price. Parking. There is no lot attached to it.
Farmers Market at the Amp runs 8:30 to 12:30 Saturday and costs nothing to walk into, and that one does have its own lot. Go early.
The cheap one
Cracker Day is at the county fairgrounds on Saturday and it runs 8 to 6. Five dollars.
It is the 67th of them, it is the Cattlemen’s Association, and it is horse games and a festival out on 207 all day. Furthest thing from the beach you can get in this county and still be in it.
The strange one
Family Seining is at the Guana Dam on Saturday and it runs 9 to 11. Three dollars a person.
You pull a seine net through Guana Lake with the Reserve’s staff and look at whatever comes up in it, and they ask you to be there fifteen minutes early.
Classic Car Show at the Classic Car Museum, 9 to 2, free to spectators. Pontiacs. A hundred years of them.
Bars, and who is actually playing
Prohibition Kitchen has two sets on Saturday night. Shine from 6 to 9, then Paper City Hustlers from 10 to midnight.
Pili Pili Sunday at 6. Joseph Caneva Monday at 6. Colton McKenna Tuesday at 6.
The calendar carries no cover and no price field of any kind, so do not take a free night from us on the strength of that.
Sunday morning, if you are up
Game On! St. Augustine Triathlon goes off at 7:25 at Vilano Beach Oceanfront Park, and it is an Olympic and a sprint plus a duathlon and an aquabike.
The rip current statement runs out at 6 a.m. Sunday. That is about an hour and a half before the horn.
The one everybody ends up at anyway is the beach, and it is free, and it always was. Just not at nine in the morning this weekend.
