Cafe Eleven has the show tonight. The Grass Is Dead go on at 8, it is all ages, and if you are under 21 there is a $5 fee at the door on top of whatever the ticket cost. Standing room. The kitchen stops when the music starts and after that it is drinks and desserts.

That 8 o’clock is the venue’s own time and the page does not say whether it is doors or downbeat, which on a standing-room night is the difference between getting a spot on the rail and watching the back of somebody’s head.

Colonial Oak has The Expendables at 6, and that one is marked Ticketed. The venue calls them a Santa Cruz band working reggae, surf rock, punk and ska. The park’s calendar runs ten October dates and prints a price on none of them.

Meehan’s has Smokin Joe at 1 in the afternoon, listed as BY. The pub’s October list uses BY and PUB all month and never says what either one means.

Prohibition Kitchen is shut tonight

The calendar has Oct. 1 blocked out all day and the entry reads Closed for Cleaning. That is their own listing, not a guess.

They are back Friday. The House Cats at 6, Paper City Hustlers at 10. Saturday is The Collective at 6 and Mandalla at 10. Sunday is Micah & Skyler at 6, Monday is Sam Pacetti at 6, Tuesday is Jim Johnston at 6.

There is nothing in the file for Wednesday the 7th. Not a TBA, not a hold. The date is simply not there.

Milltop has not posted October

The feed behind the Milltop music page carries sixty-nine dates. Every one of them is September. The last entry is Sept. 30, Jim Lamb at noon and Nathan Allen at 4:30, and then it stops.

Through September that room ran a set at noon and another at 4:30 every day, and added a 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Two sets a day, three at the weekend, every day of the month. It is a working room, which is why a blank October is worth noticing rather than shrugging at.

None of this means the music stopped. It means that if you want to know who is playing the Milltop this weekend, the page that exists to tell you does not.

What nobody is printing

Five venue calendars and a promoter’s, and not one cover charge between them.

Cafe Eleven prints a door fee for under-21s and no ticket price. Colonial Oak prints Ticketed on three October shows and a price on zero. The promoter’s own calendar prints a door time for every show on it and a price for none. Meehan’s, Prohibition Kitchen and the Milltop print no money at all.

A door time tells you when to leave the house. A price tells you whether you are going.
