A driver was killed early Saturday on southbound Interstate 95 in St. Johns County, according to Florida Highway Patrol accounts carried by two Jacksonville outlets. The St. Johns Citizen reported that the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. near mile marker 325, and that troopers said the sedan veered onto the right shoulder. The car ran off the interstate, struck several trees and came to rest burning in the tree line west of the highway, the same report said.

News4JAX reported the crash happened shortly after 1 a.m. just before International Golf Parkway, and said the two right southbound lanes stayed blocked while crews worked the scene. The station updated its report at 6:41 Saturday morning and said the patrol had released no additional details.

The patrol had yet to identify the driver as of the Citizen’s report on Saturday afternoon, and the station’s account likewise carried no name. The crash remains under investigation, according to both outlets, and neither account reported any other vehicle as involved.
