Ninety-nine inpatient beds opened in the north end of St. Johns County on Tuesday, in a five-story building of about 220,000 square feet on 42.5 acres off State Road 9B. UF Health says the first phase of its Durbin Park campus officially opened Sept. 22, and that the first phase is the hospital.

The address is 100 UF Health Way, in the St. Johns postal area, zip 32259. The system’s own location page gives the count as 99 inpatient beds and lists a 24-hour emergency department alongside them.

What the release lists inside the hospital, in its own order: an emergency room open 24 hours a day and seven days a week, advanced imaging, six operating rooms, two endoscopy suites, cardiac catheterization, interventional radiology, and private inpatient rooms.

The second building is not open

The campus has two buildings and only one of them is taking patients. Durbin Park Medical Office Building 1 is three stories and 72,000 square feet, and the release says it is set to open to patients soon, without giving a date.

Eleven service lines are listed for that building when it does open: ear, nose and throat, general surgery, gynecology, heart and vascular, laboratory services, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, pain management, rehabilitation services and urology. None of those is in the hospital list above, so the building is an addition to what opened Tuesday rather than a duplicate of it.

What the county had before Tuesday

UF Health’s own page for Flagler Hospital, at 400 Health Park Blvd in St. Augustine, calls it the 335-bed hospital. Flagler is the only facility in this county among the three the release names as the network Durbin Park joins, the other two being UF Health Jacksonville and UF Health North.

Add the two and the system now publishes 434 beds inside St. Johns County, up from 335. That sum is the Tattler’s arithmetic off two of the system’s pages, and neither page prints a total.

The two sit at opposite ends of the county. The release places Durbin Park off State Road 9B, minutes from Interstate 95, and calls the site northern St. Johns County. Flagler is on Health Park Boulevard, south of St. Augustine.

Every figure above is the health system’s own, off the release it published and the location pages it maintains. The release quotes the president of UF Health St. Johns saying that patients who once traveled significant distances for specialty care, surgery or inpatient treatment can now receive that care here. It gives no number for how many people that is, no service area, and no projected volume.
